I think the key here is that Trumpism is a cult, and Trump likes Russia and Putin (for obvious reasons). So, the half-wit MAGAs think if "Fearless Leader" says Russia must be defended, so do they. Add to that the fact that Russia is hardly communist. In fact, I say they are on the complete other side of the political spectrum now.
